Singapore to host Wild Rift Horizon Cup live in November
Singapore will once again be playing host to a major esports event this year after Riot Games announced on Wednesday (22 September) that they will be hosting the League of Legends: Wild Rift Horizon Cup at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre from 13 to 21 November.
Riot Games said in a press release that they were able to get the support of the Singapore Tourism Board to host the Wild Rift Horizon Cup live in the republic.
The tournament will feature 10 of the best Wild Rift teams from all across the world and will serve as the game's international esports debut.
The list of countries and regions that will be competing in the Horizon Cup include Southeast Asia, China, South Korea, Japan, Europe, North America, Brazil, and South America.
The representatives for each region will be determined through a series of qualifiers for each respective region. In addition, Southeast Asia and China will each have two representatives in the tournament while the rest of the participating countries and region will only have one team attending.
"Wild Rift was introduced across regions earlier this year, and the demand we’ve seen for esports has been incredible. We’ve been planning an international esports debut all year and we’re ready to show you what top tier pro play looks like in Wild Rift," Riot Games said in the release.
“The Wild Rift Horizon Cup is the first of many steps we will take to show how committed we are to our mobile fans around the world. We are excited to share more of what we’ve been preparing for the future of the sport later this year,” added Global Head of Wild Rift Esports Leo Faria.
Riot Games will be releasing more information on the Wild Rift Horizon Cup, including regional qualifier dates, prize pool, broadcast schedule, and format, closer to the event.
Despite the continuing effects of the coronavirus pandemic, Singapore has successfully hosted multiple offline esports event this year.
The republic hosted the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M2 World Championship in January, the ONE Esports Dota 2 Singapore Major from late March to early April, and the 2021 Free Fire World Series in May.
