The Queen has shared a new image with the Duke of Edinburgh and seven of their great-grandchildren, as she remains in mourning ahead of the funeral on Saturday.

The image, which was shared on Instagram on Wednesday evening, was taken by the Duchess of Cambridge in Balmoral in 2018.

It shows the Queen holding Prince Louis, and the duke sat in between Princess Charlotte and Isla Phillips, the younger daughter of Peter Phillips, Princess Anne's son.

Prince George grins proudly on the far left of the photo, dressed in a short sleeve shirt and checked shorts, with long socks.

Savannah Phillips, Isla's older sister, stands behind the sofa where most of the family are sat.

Isla looks to be holding Lena Tindall, the youngest daughter of Mike and Zara Tindall. Lena was born in 2018.

Stood at the far right is Mia Tindall, the older daughter Zara, who is one of the Queen's granddaughters.

The Duke of Edinburgh had 10 great-grandchildren, but never met his 11th, as granddaughter-in-law Meghan Markle is yet to give birth to her second child.

It's not known if he would have had a chance to meet his ninth and 10th great-grandchildren either, because of his poor health and the ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

Princess Eugenie welcomed August Brooksbank in February, giving him a middle name of Philip, and Zara welcomed her third child and first son Lucas in March.

Lucas was also given the middle name Philip.

As well as the image from the Royal Family, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a new picture of their family with the Queen and Prince Philip, in Balmoral.

The image on the Kensington Royal Instagram account was taken in 2015, just after Princess Charlotte was born.

A baby Charlotte is in her mother's arms in the image - but her gaze is very much fixed on her great-grandmother.

The Queen smiles back at her then youngest great-grandchild.

Prince George is holding his father's hand in the image, and the pair are both wearing blue jumpers.

The Duke of Edinburgh is in a brown suit with a red tie.

Balmoral is a favourite family spot for the royals and is where they spend their summers. The Queen and the duke managed a short stay in the summer of 2020 when coronavirus restrictions were eased.

Princess Eugenie once said of Balmoral: "It's the most beautiful place on Earth. I think Granny is the most happy there, I think she really, really loves the Highlands. Walks, picnics, dogs - a lot of dogs, there's always dogs - and people coming in and out all the time. Family-wise we're all there, so it's a lovely base for Granny and Grandpa to be - for us to come and see them up there, where you just have room to breathe and run."

While the grandchildren call the Queen and Prince Philip Granny and Grandpa, it's previously been revealed that George calls Her Majesty Gan-Gan.

Prince Charles and Camilla also shared a couple of pictures on their Twitter account on Wednesday as they remembered their "much-loved father and father-in-law".

One picture showed a young Charles next to his father on horseback at a polo match in 1966.

The second image showed the Duchess of Cornwall too, with the two men in their military uniforms. The photo was taken at Prince William and Kate's wedding in 2011.

The Royal Family's Instagram account shared a collection of those chosen by family members across the accounts and included one of the duke with Prince Harry.

They also included one of the pictures that Princess Eugenie shared in her personal tribute, which she posted earlier on Wednesday.

Neither Harry or Eugenie carry out engagements on behalf of their grandmother or the royals. Harry stepped back in March 2020 and Eugenie has never been a senior royal.

Harry, who is in the UK and in quarantine ahead of the funeral, released a tribute through his US spokesperson, but with no social media presence at the moment, has not been able to join in sharing images in the same way.

The new pictures came as the Queen and Princess Anne went back to work despite still being in the eight days of mourning before the funeral, which is set for Saturday.

Anne visited the Royal Yacht Squadron on the Isle of Wight while her mother carried out a ceremony to mark the retirement of her long-time Lord Chamberlain, Earl Peel.

The Queen and the Royal Family will be in a period of mourning until 22 April, the day after her 95th birthday.
