While stories like this may suggest otherwise, Genshin Impact isn't all about 5-star characters that you have to empty your primogem hoard just to get.

While 4-star characters can be easier to acquire (at least, if you're not going for full constellation), that doesn't mean they're any less fun to play than the 5-stars.

And even if 5-star characters are generally stronger than their 4-star counterparts, some of the best characters in the game are actually 4-stars.

With that said, we at Yahoo Gaming SEA thought it'd be good to go through all of the 4-star characters in Genshin Impact to break down how good they are and whether or not they're worth building and having in your teams.

Let's start with the 4-star characters hailing from Mondstadt, the Nation of Freedom.

Amber (Pyro)

Out of all the free-to-play characters, Amber has arguably one of the hardest kits to love, so she’s usually relegated to the expedition team.

But if you want to give Amber a chance, she can be an okay burst DPS if given the right team to help her trigger Pyro-related reactions like Vaporize or Melt.

Verdict: You’re free to play however you want, honestly. But I wouldn't really use valuable resources on Amber unless I absolutely have a surplus I can use on her.

Barbara (Hydro)

Barbara is one of the best 4-star healers in the game, with her easily attainable C6 letting you revive a fallen character for free.

But she really only is good for a support role, as her elemental burst can only heal.

That hasn’t stopped some players out there, though, as we’ve all seen that beast of a DPS Barbara.

So, if you have the resources to build her as your damage-dealer, then why not?

Verdict: The only problem with Barbara is that her elemental skill will apply the Wet status to your active character, so she isn’t ideal against Cryo enemies. Otherwise, her heals are incredibly useful, even in the Spiral Abyss.

Bennett (Pyro)

Bennett is hands-down one of the best characters in the game, being essential for hypercarry teams looking for big damage numbers.

Not only is this (supposedly unlucky) plucky Pyro sword wielder great as a battery, his ultimate also offers both a massive damage buffs and solid healing.

You don't even need to invest much in Bennett for him to give your account a huge boost.

As for his constellations, Bennett's C6 isn’t much of a problem (unless you're a physical damage main) and can be activated just to get rid of that annoying notification indicator on the character screen.

Verdict: If you want to deal a lot of damage without having to whale for your DPS' best weapons and constellations, a maxed out Bennett is essential for your team.

Diona (Cryo)

Diona is one of the best 4-star Cryo supports in the game, thanks to all the utility she provides as a shielder, healer, and battery.

She scales off of HP, so you don't need to worry much about her artifact substats and just stack as much HP as you can.

The best thing about Diona is that she can fit into any team composition without much problems, as she is one of the game's most well-rounded characters.

Verdict: Diona’s a great addition to Melt teams that need healers, thanks to her C6 increasing your active character’s Elemental Mastery. Pair her with Diluc or Yanfei to get those delicious Melt numbers. With that said, she's also a great support for any Cryo DPS.

Fischl (Electro)

There’s no other better off-field electro sub DPS than Oz — I mean Fischl.

The Princessin Der Verurteilung can pack serious damage with or without elemental reactions, and when you have her at C6 she’s nearly unstoppable.

Pair her with a Hydro or Cryo DPS and you can easily proc reactions like Electro-Charged or lower resistances with Superconduct.

While Fischl is more often used as a sub-DPS for Electro-Charged or Superconduct physical damage compositions, she’s also a great physical DPS herself.

Verdict: Although Fischl's cooldowns can be a pain, it can be easily dismissed due to her near-constant Electro application. This is especially useful if you favor team compositions that revolve around Electro-based reactions.

Kaeya (Cryo)

Kaeya was the first Cryo character to be released as part of the original starter gang.

His kit is more suited for a sub DPS, with his ultimate offering off-field Cryo application while your main DPS is going at it. Kaeya is also a great battery with his low cooldown skill, and is the undisputed ice bridge king (he was walking on water before Ayaka was around).

Verdict: Kaeya's burst is oftentimes overlooked for Cryo application, so he’s actually great for characters that can Freeze or Melt with their attacks, like Xingqiu or Hu Tao. You can also utilize his burst with an Electro applicator and turn him into a physical dps.

Lisa (Electro)

Lisa’s kit may be complicated, but once you’ve gotten the hang of it, she can be a great Electro support.

Unlike certain characters with Defense Shred mechanics locked away behind constellations, Lisa’s fourth ascension passive lets her burst shred 15% of an enemy's defense. That's a huge DPS boost for something that is practically free.

Put Lisa with an elemental reaction or physical damage team and you’ll find yourself easily dealing bigger damage for low investment.

Verdict: Lisa's not the easiest character to play, but don’t be deterred from trying her kit out. Just make sure to equip Energy Recharge artifacts and weapons on her because her burst's energy cost is no joke. She’s also easy to stagger when using her skill so a shielder is a must.

Noelle (Geo)

If Zhongli remains elusive and is still not in your team, Noelle is your next-best option for a shielder.

Her shield, with the right build, can tank just as much as the Geo Archon's. She can also heal while her burst is active, which makes her a great all-around character capable of taking on both support and DPS roles (especially if you've got a Whiteblind for her).

Verdict: If you need another shielder besides Zhongli, Noelle is the best option for you. Although her cooldowns are a bit of a detriment, pairing her with the Sacrificial Greatsword can be a quick fix.

Razor (Electro)

(Photo: HoYoverse)

Before Eula was released, Razor was the OG physical DPS.

His constant Electro application during his burst makes it so that, if paired with an off-field Cryo support like Kaeya or Rosaria, Razor is self-sufficient in lowering physical resistances with Superconduct.

He also ascends with physical damage, so that’s a bonus.

Verdict: If you don’t have Eula, Razor is a good choice for a physical DPS. His only downside is that he’s a fairly selfish DPS who needs constant off-field support, so utilize characters with off-field bursts or skills that can allow the Wolf Boy to stay on-field.

Rosaria (Cryo)

(Photo: HoYoverse)
(Photo: HoYoverse)

Rosaria is one of the best Cryo supports in the game, as she can battery with her low-cooldown skill, deal a lot of off-field damage with her burst, and provide team-wide Crit Rate buffs. She’s also pretty great as a physical DPS.

Rosaria's kit caters to both her Cryo support and physical damage dealer roles, so she's a flexible pick for many team compositions.

If that isn't enough to convince you how great she is, then know that Rosaria can increase your party's Crit Rate by up to 15% after casting her burst.

When paired with another Cryo character to trigger Cryo Resonance, Rosaria makes it easier to build your DPS by letting them focus on building up Crit DMG instead.

Verdict: If you don’t have a built Rosaria, you’re wasting a great character and you need to rethink your decisions.

Sucrose (Anemo)

(Photo: HoYoverse)
(Photo: HoYoverse)

As an Anemo character, Sucrose is already great just because she can activate the Viridescent Venerer's 4-piece set bonus.

Even then, she can be on par with 5-star Anemo characters in certain situations.

While her crowd control isn’t as good as Venti’s, Sucrose's skillset is still great for mob battles.

She’s also great for teams that heavily utilize elemental reactions, as her attacks will provide additional Swirl opportunities on top of her skill and burst.

Sucrose's passive also increases your party's Elemental Mastery, which can help the likes of Hu Tao.

Xiao will also like her, as Sucrose is an amazing Anemo battery with Sacrificial Fragments.

Verdict: Sucrose is one of the best Anemo supports out there. Stack as much Elemental Mastery as you can and she’ll let you decimate mobs and bosses in no time.

So that rounds up the 4-star Mondstadt gang up to version 2.6!
