Former Tebrau Bersatu chief Mazlan Bujang has not taken kindly to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin labelling him as dishonourable for abandoning his party in favour of Umno.

Mazlan said Muhyiddin should do some self-reflection and he reminded the former prime minister of his role in Sheraton Move.

"My advice to Muhyiddin is don't be arrogant and look in a mirror... He's calling people dishonourable but he's worse.

"Has he forgotten his betrayal in the Sheraton Move? Has he forgotten fishing Umno and Warisan leaders to Bersatu? Isn't he the one who is dishonourable?" he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.

The Sheraton Move refers to a series of political manoeuvring that culminated in the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government in February 2020.

Muhyiddin took Bersatu out of Harapan and joined forces with a group of PKR defectors to take down the Harapan government which was elected in the 2018 general election.

He went on to form a new government with then opposition parties, Umno and PAS.

It is referred to as the Sheraton Move as the conspirators had gathered at the Sheraton Hotel in Petaling Jaya when the trigger was pulled.

Mazlan ‘defected’ to Umno

Mazlan on Thursday announced that he had quit Bersatu and will back Umno ahead of the Johor polls. However, Mazlan said he will remain partyless for now.

He is the incumbent state assemblyperson for Puteri Wangsa, a state seat within the Tebrau federal constituency.

Following his resignation, Muhyiddin slammed Mazlan for being dishonourable and accused him of making the move knowing that Bersatu won't field him as an election candidate.

"Is he going to join Umno? Does he think Umno will field him as a candidate?" he said.

Umno sought a dissolution of the Johor state assembly on Jan 22, paving the way for fresh polls in the state.

The Election Commission will announce the nomination and election date on Feb 9.
