An 80-year-old man recently went viral on social media after he went to buy a car in simple pambahay (everyday home clothes) alone.

Love Dorego, a car sales executive in Lanang, Davao City posted about Manuel Almere after the old man bought a brand-new car in their automobile store.

In the Facebook post published on May 17, Dorego said that Almere, a retired associate professor, was refused entry in another store because of his appearance.

“He said he wasn’t allowed to get in, maybe because of his outward appearance, wearing very old and stained clothes, dilapidated and holed shoes, and a dirty mask,” the post read.

On the other hand, Dorego’s workplace quickly accepted the simple-looking customer.

“He walked into our Showroom at Lanang, but we didn’t hesitate to let him in and entertained him, asking what unit he wants to inquire about,” Dorego said.

Almere bought a Suzuki S-presso, one of the most affordable cars in the market, and paid P593,000 in cash.

The sales executive said that the retired educator came back the next day because he didn’t bring his money with him during the inquiry as he was just commuting.

In an interview, Manuel Almere said that he considered buying a motorcycle, but decided against it because of his old age.

He said he only bought the car so he can conveniently go to the church.

“I want to please God, not myself, not a woman, not the world,” Manuel said.

Almere reportedly has no immediate family and is currently living alone.
