2022 Wild Rift Icons Global Championship to be held in Singapore

League of Legends: Wild Rift developer Riot Games announced on Sunday (8 May) that the 2022 Wild Rift Icons Global Championship will be held at the Suntec Convention and Exhibition Center in Singapore from 14 June to 9 July.

Wild Rift Icons will be the concluding event for Wild Rift's 2022 esports season and is the game's most prestigious international competition, equivalent to League of Legends' World Championship.

Wild Rift Icons will feature 24 of the best Wild Rift teams from China, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Japan, EMEA, North America, Latin America, and Brazil competing for the lion's share of a US$2 million prize pool.

The tournament is also split into three stages: the Play-Ins, the Group Stage, and the Knockout Stage. The champions of Wild Rift scene's eight regional championships have earned direct seeds to the Group Stage while the 16 respective runners-up will start in the Play-Ins.

China and Southeast Asia will each have four representatives in Wild Rift Icons while South Korea, EMEA, Latin America, and Brazil will field three teams each. Finally, Japan and North America will each have two representatives.

Wild Rift Icons will begin with the Play-In stage 14 to 18 June, followed by the Group Stage from 21 to 25 June, and with the Knockout Stage taking place from 1 to 9 July.

Wild Rift Icons was originally set to take place in Europe when it was first announced.

However, Riot made the decision to move the tournament to Singapore due to the COVID-19 pandemic "complicating visa application timelines and re-entry dates for many regional teams".

"This decision will not only ensure that teams have the best chance of attending Icons, but that they also have a great experience at their first Icons championship," Riot said in a statement.

Singapore has already hosted a top tier Wild Rift esports tournament in last year's Horizon Cup, which was held at the Suntec Convention and Exhibition Center in November and won by Chinese team Da Kun Gaming.

Riot has not yet revealed whether or not Wild Rift Icons will have a live audience in attendance. The developer is set to release more information on the tournament in the coming weeks and months.
